Trout Gallery Attendant
The primary purpose of the Trout Gallery Attendant is to be the frontline representative for all visitors to the museum by providing information and assistance to patrons of the museum. In addition to facilitating the scheduling of group visits, the Gallery Attendant also oversees the gallery space from a safety and security perspective. As time permits, the Gallery Attendant provides support to Gallery operations, including archival projects, educational material preparation, and other administrative tasks.
Essential Functions:
- Provide critical security for all artwork on display in the gallery: Monitor visitor behavior in the gallery and give security instructions to visitors as needed. Call campus Security for emergency assistance to protect artwork or manage visitors. Follow security protocols as outlined in the Visitor Services guide. Open and close for regular gallery hours, group visits, and special events. Protect confidential information including alarm security codes and information about art objects.
- Greet visitors and provide information about current and upcoming gallery exhibitions or events. Read assigned articles and information in preparation for upcoming exhibitions. Attend and participate in Visitor Services training sessions and staff meetings. Provide brochures or catalogs to visitors.
- Manage scheduling details, Gallery Attendant staffing needs, and data for visiting groups and special events. Gather and maintain gallery attendance data for Trout Gallery exhibitions and programs.
- Assist Trout staff with programs and projects when possible, and as needed. Responsibilities include program set-up and clean-up, processing of teaching materials, and directing traffic flow. Assist with Gallery archival projects as needed: scanning and organizing data, catalogs, brochures and other Gallery materials. Assist Collections Manager with object and donor data collection and maintenance, as well as other duties as assigned.
