Position Description

Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.

Major/Essential Functions

• Field work associated with the West Texas Mesonet, Hurricane Research Team, or other field campaigns.
• Operational product design and development through iterative user feedback.
• Measurement system design, troubleshooting, and testing.
• Interaction with data users to answer questions and address issues.
• Measurement system installation, calibration and support.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a specialized field equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in Atmospheric Science.
• Experience and/or interests in performing field deployments; experience performing independent research.
• Experience interacting with the public about atmospheric hazards; experience with low voltage electronics, data loggers and sensors; ability to work with large spatiotemporal datasets; programming capabilities.

Pay Range

$59,000 - $77,100 - $94,900
