The purpose of the role is to deliver highly effective modules at International Foundation Year (Pre-Undergraduate or Level 3 Equivalent) level. Teaching sessions will be predominantly face to face with some online teaching also required. The Arts, Humanities and Law modules at the centre include: English Legal system English Literature; Extended Project; Geography; Introduction to Liberal Arts; Introduction to Ancient History; and Introduction to Modern History.
You will join a team of Arts and Humanities tutors to deliver some of the above modules.
ABOUT THE ROLE
- Delivering modules (face-to-face and occasionally online) to international students studying on programmes offered by the Centre and assisting with the continued development of modules.
- Developing modules from module specifications. This will include schemes of learning along with appropriate development of learning resources.
- Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of the Centre’s virtual learning environment (VLE). Facilitating student access to same.
- Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process
- Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance
- Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students
- Participating in regular meetings with teaching and support staff.
- Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.
- Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
- Arranging and supporting visits to places of interest linked to the subject.
ABOUT YOU
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (essential)
- A recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
- A Master’s degree or equivalent in a related subject area (desirable)
- Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
- Teaching experience delivering Arts, Humanities and Law and other arts and humanities programmes within a Sixth Form, Further Education or Higher Education context
- Experience of working with international students both online and face-to-face. (Desirable)
- Competence in teaching and administrative IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, etc)
- Confident practitioner online and face-to-face
- Able to master a wide range of online teaching software
- A student-centred approach
- Strong record-keeping skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Flexibility
- Ability to work under pressure to deadlines
- Strong sense of teamwork
