"Two Tenure-Track Positions, Functional Genomics/Genetics and Systems Biology"

The Reed College Biology Department invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions, at the rank of Assistant Professor. We are especially interested in candidates working in the areas of functional genetics/genomics and systems biology, broadly, with preference for those applicants pursuing research questions and using approaches that complement existing strengths in the department (https://www.reed.edu/biology/faculty.html). At least one position will be filled by a candidate who brings expertise on plants, algae, or other non-animal organisms currently unrepresented by our faculty. A Ph.D. is required prior to the start date; at least one year of postdoctoral training and/or other professional experience is preferred.

Reed is a selective liberal arts college in Portland, OR, with approximately 1400 bright and dedicated undergraduate students enrolled in a demanding academic program (https://www.reed.edu/about/). Reed equally values teaching and research; successful candidates will establish and maintain a rigorous and engaging research program that incorporates opportunities for Reed undergraduates. Teaching duties two courses in one semester and three courses in the other (2/3) and include courses at the introductory level (some of which may be team-taught), an upper-level lecture/laboratory course in the candidate’s area of expertise that complements the existing curriculum in the department, mentorship of students for their required year-long senior thesis experience, and optional advanced seminar courses. The candidate's teaching and research may also support or involve students in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology interdisciplinary major and other interdisciplinary programs (https://catalog.reed.edu/content.php?catoid=9&navoid=810). Formal teaching or mentoring experience at the undergraduate level will be viewed favorably but is not required.

Application materials include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a one-page teaching/mentoring statement that proposes your plans for fostering an inclusive pedagogical program, and a two-page research plan that includes projects that can involve undergraduates, especially year-long thesis projects.
