UCLA DEPARTMENT OF AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES OPEN POSITIONS: PART-TIME LECTURERS (NON-SENATE) 2025-2026

The Department of African American Studies at UCLA invites applications for non-tenure track lecturer positions in 2025-2026. We are looking for instructors who can teach generally a survey of African diaspora courses, not limited to courses in Africa and the Middle East, music, religion, history, and cultural studies. Lecturer appointments are part-time as dictated by instructional needs and budget constraints of the department. Quarter academic appointment dates are as follows:
- Fall: October 1-December 31st, 2025
- Winter: January 1-March 31st, 2026
- Spring: April 1-June 30th, 2026
Salary commensurate with applicant qualifications and experience; percentage of appointment commensurate with teaching load. See Table 15 Unit 18 Faculty Pre-Six - AY (ucop.edu) for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position $68,247 - $83,936.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are working transnationally, including on Africa and diaspora and whose scholarship and engagements are interdisciplinary.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with a Ph.D. or equivalent in African/African American Studies, American Studies, Art History, History, Law, Political Science, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Ethnomusicology, Public Health, Education, Public Affairs, Urban Planning, Philosophy, Theater, Film, Literature, Humanities, Gender Studies, LGBTQ Studies, or related fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants who are advanced to Ph.D. candidacy or who have a M.A., M.F.A., or equivalent may be considered (currently enrolled UC students are not considered).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants with a Ph.D. are preferred. Candidates with a minimum of two years of teaching experience and a demonstrated record of distinguished undergraduate teaching. Evidence of this teaching record must be supplied. Applicants with extensive academic and/or professional experience are encouraged to apply.
