Job Description:
The Social Work Program at Weber State University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of assistant professor, opening fall 2026. This position is a nine-month, tenure track, full time faculty appointment to the BSW program, which is fully accredited by Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Job Duties:
The position involves instruction in the department’s undergraduate program and undergraduate teaching responsibilities within the generalist framework. Teaching emphasis in this position will include foundations of social work, human behavior in the social environment (HBSE), behavioral health, and gerontology. The main teaching responsibilities will be in our Gerontology program. Other responsibilities include committee assignments, professional activities, presentations, publications, and community service.
Required Qualifications:
Required qualifications include:
- A PhD in Social Work or a related field (ABD with completion of dissertation by June, 2027 will be considered);
- An MSW from a CSWE-accredited program;
- A minimum of five years post-MSW practice experience (paid);
- Eligibility for clinical social work license (LCSW) in the state of Utah.
Preferred Qualifications:
Seeking applicants with the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Evidence of potential for teaching excellence in a variety of subject areas in undergraduate social work curricula (experience teaching in a classroom in a CSWE-accredited social work department preferred);
- A commitment to excellence in scholarship, teaching, advising, and student development;
- An interest in creative program development;
- The ability to work in a collegial manner with social work faculty members and faculty from other disciplines across campus.

Weber State University, a part of the Utah Higher Education system, is located in Ogden, Utah in the northern part of the State at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. The Master of Social Work (MSW) Program is part of the Department of Social Work and Gerontology and is housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The undergraduate social work program has been accredited by the Council on Social Work Education since 1974. The MSW program uses a harm reduction framework and focuses on the development of advanced clinical social work practice skills, giving particular attention to local and regional needs. The MSW program is new and evolving, has a small but dynamic faculty, and serves a student body from a variety of backgrounds.
Physical Activity of this position: Expressing or exchanging ideas. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important instructions to other workers accurately or quickly. , Ability to receive detailed information with or without assistance.
Physical Requirements of this position: Light work. Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Use of arm and/or leg controls exerting forces greater than that for sedentary work.
Visual Acuity Requirements including color, depth perception and field of vision: Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The conditions the worker will be subject to in this position: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work).
