GENERAL PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union Operations Coordinator, the University Information Center Assistant provides a high-level of customer service and general information about San Diego State University and the surrounding areas to all campus visitors including students, staff, faculty, and the general public through in-person, phone, and electronic interactions. The University Information Center Assistant helps to maintain the primary lost and found service on campus and supports the Operations Coordinator with the logistics of the University lost and found program. The University Information Center will also manage tabling reservations made through the reservations desk and walk-up reservation requests for study spaces in the building.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions
- Acts as one of the facility liaisons to ensure that Associated Students, San Diego State University, and the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union policies are known to users of the student union facilities and are adhered to. Capable of communicating policies and standards of conduct to effectively express expectations and problems to customers, students, and employees using the facilities.
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the items set forth in the Student Employee Training Guide.
- Provides general information about San Diego State University and the local immediate area to all campus visitors including students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
- Knowledgeable of San Diego Public Transit System and distributes information and appropriate schedules when applicable.
- Assists the Operations Team in the responsibility for the security lock-up of the University Information Center at the beginning and end of each business day in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Knowledgeable of the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union facilities fire alarm systems, operations, and emergency evacuation procedures.
- Completes the daily University Information Center Shift Report, documenting information delineated on the on-line form and summarizing relevant details for review by fellow University Information Center Staff members and other Aztec Student Union personnel.
Clerical Support
- Provides general information regarding lost and found services through in-person, phone, and electronic interactions.
- Maintains the primary lost and found service on campus.
- Logs and accurately tags items to be placed in designated storage in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Documents when items are returned to owners according to established policies and procedures.
- Oversee tabling reservations made through the reservations desk, distribute tables and chairs to clients and take down necessary information for check-out.
Other Duties
- Able to develop a good working relationship with fellow employees and be willing to work as a team and promote teamwork values.
- Maintains overall cleanliness, organization and appearance of the Information Center.
- Performs other duties as assigned to ensure functions of all Aztec Student Union facilities.
Job Requirements:
Minimum & Preferred Requirements
Education:
- Students must be enrolled in at least half time units at SDSU (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
- International students must have full-time enrollment at SDSU (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
- Global Campus units do not meet the SDSU unit requirements.
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Business majors preferred
Trainings:
- Anti-Harassment training (must be completed within 30 days of hire)
- Workplace Violence Prevention Plan Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
- Gender Awareness Training (Must be completed within 30 days of hire)
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS
- Must be detail-oriented and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must be comfortable interacting with the public and communicating with customers, students, and staff.
- Must be well organized and able to manage a multitude of tasks simultaneously under pressure and with accuracy.
- Must be able to remain focused in an environment with constant interruptions.
- Must have a flexible schedule to work weekends, holidays and long hours on an as needed basis.
- Ability to work during summers and break periods is preferred
- Special Considerations: Must have competence in social skills and cultural diversity.
SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position with typical hours to be worked during business hours of the Information Center. Night and weekend hours are common and work hours will be adjusted when needed for special events.

General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking around campus. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical requirements include but are not limited to: walking, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying light loads.
This position requires the individual to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. This person will also spend time carrying objects such as tables, chairs and marketing materials.
