- Perform vascular diagnostic procedures independently utilizing ultrasound and other ancillary devices.
- Use knowledge and skills to record and adapt vascular exams to obtain anatomical and pathological diagnostic information and images as appropriate for individual disease processes.
- Use independent judgement to acquire the optimum diagnostic information for each examination performed.
- Perform carotid, peripheral, venous, peripheral arterial, physiological arterial, visceral, aortic, TCD, hemodialysis access, TCOM, venous insufficiency, intraoperative, bypass, and other exams following established protocols as outlined by IAC.
- Evaluate and communicate diagnostic information to referring medical providers.
- Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of the patient while in the care of the sonographer.
- Establish and maintain ethical working relationships and effective communication with all referring services and staff.
- Maintain knowledge of and observe universal precautions.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Adapt to changing environments, such as, changing schedules, emergency situations, evolving technology and protocol development.
- Effectively operate and help maintain equipment.
- Perform other work duties as assigned.
- Maintain proper data for billing (ICD codes/CPT).
- Effectively and efficiently utilize multiple pieces of equipment and computer programs.
- Complete preliminary reports.
- Participate in quality assessment (QA) of exams.
- Assist with clinical research studies, as needed.
- Assist with clinical education of vascular sonography students, residents and fellows.
Associate degree from a formal Vascular Sonography Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP). BCLS certification required, within 3 months of hire. Certification as a Registered Vascular Technologist by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Reasonable experience with non-invasive diagnostic procedures is necessary.
A CCI Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS)
Full-time, 30 hours/week, Fri, Sat, Sun 8pm-6:30am, evening shift. Weekend and Holiday coverage rotates. Staff may be required to rotate to other DVU locations as needed.
Physical requirements: Must be sufficiently healthy to meet the emotional and physical demands of the position. Must have sufficient strength to move patients, heavy equipment on wheels, (up to 400 lb.) and move patients in wheelchairs and stretchers. Ability to maintain prolonged arm positions necessary for scanning. Ability to maintain awkward scanning, sitting and standing positions for extended periods of time. Must be able to move 50 lb. Ability to concentrate and focus attention, thoughts and efforts on patients and equipment for varying periods of time.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
