About the Position

This position is a member of Veteran Services Office team and is responsible for work using knowledge and experience specific to the program under general direction. The position’s primary responsibility is completing the certifications of military connected students within the VA database as well as auditing student records and accounts to verify accurate documentation and payments for VA educational benefits. This position uses software programs offered by both the Department of Defense and the VA to certify military connected student benefits and reconciles benefits received for students by regularly accessing WWU software such as Banner, Teams, Microsoft Suite, Web4U, WordPress, SLATE, Joint Service Transcripts, Tungsten, AI Portal, and AskVA.gov.

The State HR classification for this position is Program Specialist 2.

Required Qualifications

  • Community college or technical college degree or equivalent course work;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in records, accounting or similar related work requiring confidentiality and accuracy;
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgement under periods of high volume requiring significant accuracy;
  • Experience working with military-connected service members or their families;
  • Experience working with diverse and inclusive communities;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Experience with computer use and software navigation;
  • Experience with software programs such as Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous School Certifying Official experience;
  • Experience with higher education related database software;
  • Completion of cultural competency training within the past 2 years with a focus on equity, inclusion and diversity;
  • Excellent customer service skills applied consistently every day in a variety of modalities including in person and telephone;
  • Experience working with Enrollment Manager;
  • Knowledge of Department of Veteran Affairs programming.

Salary

$4,342 - $5,836/month depending on qualifications and experience.
