Job Description Summary
The Veterinary Student Nurse Educator plays a key role in delivering high quality clinical education to veterinary students across all four years of the curriculum. This position supports both the Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) and the Ryan Hospital Patient Care Rotation (PCR) through hands-on skills teaching, rotation coordination, clinical support, and educational development. The Nurse Educator collaborates closely with faculty, staff veterinarians, teaching laboratory coordinators, and clinical nursing staff to ensure an exceptional learning experience and smooth day-to-day operation of teaching activities.
The Veterinary Student Nurse Educator plays a vital role in preparing veterinary students for clinical practice through hands-on teaching, mentorship, and real-time clinical support. This unique position blends education and patient care, supporting both the Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) and the Ryan Veterinary Hospital Patient Care Rotation (PCR).
Working alongside faculty, clinicians, and nursing leadership, you will guide students as they build confidence in essential clinical skills while contributing to a collaborative, mission-driven teaching hospital environment.
Job Responsibilities
- CSL: Instruction & Teaching - Deliver hands-on instruction for clinical and surgical skills labs. Assess student competency during labs and practical exams
- CSL Curriculum Development & Materials Management - Maintain models and teaching materials. Design and develop new clinical/surgical training models
- CSL Lab Operations & Coordination - Lab setup/breakdown. Organize lab schedules and practical exams. Support student practice sessions
- Patient Care Rotation (PCR) Orientation & Onboarding - Lead orientation sessions. Provide logistics, scheduling, and systems training (Omnicell, pumps, etc.)
- PCR Clinical Support & Student Guidance - Act as primary liaison between students, nurses, and hospital staff. Provide real-time clinical support, troubleshooting, and skill reinforcement
- PCR Educational Coordination & Teaching Rounds - Coordinate teaching rounds. Oversee daily student supervision and learning experiences
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Hours: Monday through Friday, 40 hours/week. The daytime schedule will vary depending on teaching responsibilities.
Qualifications
Advanced clinical veterinary nursing skills, a passion for teaching and developing others' skills, strong communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to assess clinical skills and provide constructive feedback, highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, a collaborative mindset with a commitment to patient care and education are required. Experience teaching, training, or mentoring others is strongly preferred.
Veterinary Technician D
An Associate of Science degree and 5 to 7 years of clinical veterinary nursing experience, and a Certified or Licensed Veterinary Technician (CVT or LVT), or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
Veterinary Technician E
An Associate of Science degree and 7 to 10 years of clinical veterinary nursing experience, and a CVT/VTS (Veterinary Technician Specialty) or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
