Job Summary/Basic Function
The responsibility of this temporary position is to provide assistance to students enrolled in the composition courses, with a primary focus on corequisite courses. This position will be providing support in and out of the classroom, as needed by students and the instructor.
Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated competence (at least an A-) in ENGL 101, Rhetoric & Composition or a comparable course.
- Completed the equivalent of two years of college course work.
- Strong foundation in reading and writing.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Prior experience with teaching or tutoring.
- Candidate must be committed to student retention and success and display exceptional interpersonal and team-working skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Arts in English or related field.
- Two years’ experience working at the college level.

Job Duties
- Collaborate with faculty to help students meet learning outcomes
- Provide academic support for students who are having difficulty meeting the learning outcomes of the composition courses
- Provide individual and group tutoring and mentoring to composition students
- Recognize and respond to students according to their varying learning needs and use innovative strategies to assist them in grasping and applying subject matter
- Maintain and provide data on students assisted, time spent, and type of assistance provided to supervisor and College Readiness Coordinator
- Serve as resource for composition students who are at risk and ensure that they are provided the necessary assistance
- Attend composition courses as requested by the faculty to ensure consistency of teaching methods and learning outcomes
- Hold office hours/open support time in the HUB
- Any other duties as assigned
