Vice President of Academic Affairs and University Provost
Seeking an Academic Leader with Passion For a University with Purpose Vice President of Academic Affairs and University Provost
Antioch University (AU) seeks a passionate educator, visionary innovator, and experienced administrator to serve as its next Vice President of Academic Affairs and University Provost (VPAA). The successful candidate will be committed to continuing the historic legacy of “winning victories for humanity,” as embodied in the words of Antioch’s founding president, Horace Mann.
The VPAA will lead with competency, curiosity, compassion, and creativity as they build upon a 173-year foundation grounded in academic excellence, experiential learning, and social engagement. The AU mission informs our institution’s work, strategic planning, and future directions.
The successful candidate must understand the current higher education landscape, be able to navigate the challenges and opportunities, balance shared governance with academic decision-making authority, and be excited by building programs and partnerships, expanding access to diverse and nontraditional learners, and designing education for a more just society. The VPAA serves as a member of the President’s Cabinet and reports directly to the University President, Dr. Lori Varlotta, who takes office in August 2025.
AU offers a range of degrees and credentials, mostly at the graduate and professional level in a robust array of onsite, hybrid, and online modalities. The academic programs are clustered under three national interdisciplinary schools: the School of Counseling, Psychology and Therapies, the Graduate School of Nursing and Health Professions, and the School of Interdisciplinary & Professional Studies. The latter includes education, environmental studies, leadership & change, management, creative writing, and undergraduate studies.
Antioch University is an integrated multi-campus system, with five campuses across the United States: Keene, NH; Seattle, WA; Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, CA; and the Midwest campus in Yellow Springs, OH, which also houses the University’s central offices. Antioch has been continuously accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1927. A number of Antioch professional programs also have specialized accreditation.
AU, in partnership with Otterbein University, has recently elevated and strengthened its historic commitment to advance equity and justice as a founding member of the Coalition for the Common Good (CCG), an innovative national system of higher education institutions established in 2023, and committed to improving access and promoting the common good. The Antioch VPAA serves as the CCG Vice President of Graduate Studies and, in that role, works collaboratively to expand CCG and to scale-up and grow new and existing graduate programs across the system.
