Victim Survivor Advocate
Job Summary
The Center for Campus Wellness (CCW) is a confidential and comprehensive wellness office that provides wellness education, trainings and workshops; victim-survivor advocacy services and support; safer sex services for students; alcohol and other drug support services; wellness coaching; basic needs support; resource navigation; and student involvement opportunities.
This office seeks a Victim-Survivor Advocate who is committed to taking a holistic approach to support and empower students, faculty, and staff who have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, sexual harassment, stalking, domestic and family violence, discrimination, and other forms of interpersonal harm. This position will be responsible for:
- Direct Advocacy and Case Management (75%): Provide client-centered advocacy and case management services to students, faculty, and staff survivors and maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of services, referrals, and case interactions to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care for survivors.
- Campus/Community Partnerships and Collaborations (10%): Conduct outreach and maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments and community organizations to increase awareness of advocacy services and strengthen support networks.
- Programming and Event Support (10%): Assist with planning and implementing survivor‑centered programs and CCW awareness events, collaborating with campus partners as needed.
- Education and Workshop Facilitation (5%): Support the development and delivery of workshops, presentations, and psychoeducational groups on topics related to Violence and Harm Support & Response and Health & Wellness to the campus community.
Victim-Survivor Advocacy support services will be in compliance with VAWA Federal Campus Security ACT, Title IX regulations, and the Clery Act. The advocate will be responsible for assessment and ongoing individual case management to identify both immediate and long-term needs, rights, options, and appropriate referrals for survivors. These services include safety planning; academic support; medical and mental health referrals; legal and criminal justice support; reporting assistance; and crisis response to their clients.
The successful candidate will be an active participant in serving the mission of the Center for Campus Wellness through campus and community education, advocacy, outreach, and unique events. This position will report directly to the Advocacy Support Manager.

Responsibilities
- Provide holistic, client‑centered advocacy and case management to students, faculty, and staff who have experienced sexual assault, relationship violence, sexual harassment, stalking, domestic or family violence, discrimination, or other forms of harm. Support survivors in identifying immediate and long‑term needs, exploring rights and options, and accessing appropriate referrals.
- Deliver trauma‑informed, empowerment‑based direct services, including safety planning, academic support, resource navigation, and connections to medical, mental health, legal, and criminal justice systems.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation through a secure EHR (Medicat) of all services, referrals, and case interactions. in compliance with University, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Ensure full compliance with federal and campus policies related to violence and harm support, including University of Utah policies, the Campus SAVE Act, the Clery Act, Title IX, and relevant reporting procedures.
- Ensure full compliance with federal and state confidentiality regulations such as the Utah Confidential Communications Act and FERPA.
- Facilitate educational workshops and trainings for students, faculty, and staff on responding to disclosures of harm, advocacy mission and services, and other workshops as assigned.
- Build and sustain positive, collaborative relationships with campus partners, community organizations, and colleagues to strengthen coordinated care networks and enhance awareness of advocacy services.
- Support campus‑wide violence prevention and wellness initiatives by contributing to programs, events, and outreach efforts that promote safety, healing, and well‑being across the university community.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in best practices for trauma informed care and strengthen advocacy skills including attending trainings and seeking relevant certifications.

A major task for this position is to understand the needs of the campus community and determine what products and services should be provided to meet those needs.
Comments
The incumbent must be proficient in making daily operational decisions in the assigned area to ensure compliance with current regulations and guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Two years' experience providing direct service case management and crisis intervention for survivors of sexual assault and/or interpersonal violence. Utah State Certified Victim Advocate (40 Hour Trained). In-depth knowledge of current literature and best practices regarding sexual assault and inter-personal violence. Excellent writing and professional speaking skills. Demonstrated ability to work with students and administrators on sensitive topics.
Master's degree (MSW or related field), working knowledge of federal regulations related to campus (VAWA, Title IX, Campus Security ACT), grant writing experience, and student affairs experience are preferred.
Department-specific qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency, for example, Social Work, Criminal Justice/Criminology, Sociology (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
- Two years' experience providing direct service case management and crisis intervention for survivors of violence, abuse, and harm.
- In-depth knowledge of current literature and best practices regarding sexual assault and interpersonal violence.
- Demonstrated ability to work with students and administrators on sensitive topics.
- Utah State Certified Victim Advocate (40 Hour Trained) or completion within 60 days of hire.
One year of education is equivalent to one year of relevant experience.
Preferences
- Bilingual or multilingual speaking and/or writing skills
- Working knowledge of federal regulations related to campus (VAWA, Title IX, Campus Security ACT)
- Certified Advocate credential (e.g., NOVA, NACP, D-SAACP)
- Specialized expertise in legal and/or criminal investigation support is desired
