Job Description:

The Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences in the Cook-Cole College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, one-year visiting position (F0041) at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2026.

We seek a broadly trained biologist whose research interests will complement those of our faculty. Teaching responsibilities primarily include human anatomy and physiology courses (non-cadaver), but there may also be opportunities to teach introductory biology and upper-level courses in the candidate's area of expertise. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to teaching other classes in our growing (pre-professional) biomedical health courses including cell biology, microbiology, or genetics. The standard teaching load is 12 contact hours per semester. The University will provide dedicated research space as well as modest research funding.

This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University’s campus.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Requirement: Earned Ph.D. by time of appointment in August 2026.
  • Required commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, potential to develop a successful research program in an undergraduate setting, and dedication to quality advising of students and supervision of undergraduate research.
  • Candidates with demonstrated college teaching ability and commitment to service preferred.
  • A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is preferred.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States at time of appointment and for the duration of the annual contract. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, non-tenure-track instructional faculty position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful fingerprint-based criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
