Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics
The Physics Department at Hamilton College invites applications for multiple visiting positions at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2026. We seek candidates to teach at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels, in both classroom and laboratory settings. We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate their experience in teaching or working with broadly diverse student populations while contributing to a vibrant learning community that values academic freedom, creativity, and intellectual curiosity. Your cover letter should address the ways in which you would enhance the educational experience of students and further the College's educational goals.
The Physics Department (https://www.hamilton.edu/academics/departments/physics) has eight faculty members with active research interests including observational, computational, and theoretical astronomy, experimental nuclear physics, quantum computing, and quantum gravity. Students are involved in all of these research areas and every student performs research as part of their senior project. Our faculty use a variety of pedagogical techniques to teach courses for our 15-20 yearly majors, introductory courses for students with related interests such as pre-health and pre-engineering, and outreach courses for students interested in exploring physics.
A PhD in Physics, or related field, is required. The teaching load is five courses per year. The expected 9-month base salary range for this position is $77,900 to $80,400.
