Job Description Summary

The Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Auburn University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish, beginning August 16, 2026. This is a full-time, one-year, non-tenure-track position with a 3-3 teaching load, renewable for up to three years.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate language, literature, and culture courses, as well as graduate seminars; supervising M.A. theses; contributing to the department's scholarly profile; and supporting public-facing academic programming.

Minimum Qualifications

We seek a specialist in Spanish American poetry and theatre from the post-independence period to the present. Candidates should demonstrate strong knowledge of the major literary movements, ideologies, and historical contexts that inform Latin American poetic and dramatic traditions.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field by the start date and possess native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. Evidence of effective college-level teaching is required. The selected candidate must meet U.S. work authorization requirements at the time the appointment begins and maintain eligibility throughout the term of employment.
