Job Description
University of Puget Sound
Job ID: 8576
Location: Public Health
Faculty Posting Details
Appointment:
Visiting Assistant Professor of Public Health to begin Spring 2026.
Responsibilities:
The University of Puget Sound seeks applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Public Health in the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. This is a one-year, renewable appointment to begin as soon as possible, with an anticipated start in Spring 2026. The Visiting Assistant Professor will play a central role in the development of a hybrid/low-residency mode of instruction for the MPH program. Working collaboratively with current MPH faculty and the Office of Educational Technology, the successful candidate will support the design and development of hybrid course curriculum shells that ensure strong curricular alignment between existing in-person courses and new hybrid offerings. While prior experience with online or hybrid instruction is preferred, it is not required; the successful candidate will receive training in hybrid course design and best practices.
In addition to curriculum development work during Spring, Summer, and Fall 2026, the Visiting Assistant Professor will teach in-person courses in the MPH program during Fall 2026 and, contingent on contract renewal, Fall 2027, primarily covering courses for faculty on sabbatical.
Because this position combines curriculum development with instructional coverage across multiple areas of the MPH curriculum, we seek a generalist public health educator with broad knowledge across core public health domains. The successful candidate will contribute to hybrid course development and may teach across a range of subject areas, which may include health disparities and social determinants of health, program planning and evaluation, environmental health, healthcare systems and policy, health promotion, and research methodologies.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with current MPH faculty to develop hybrid/low-residency course shells that align closely with existing in-person courses and program learning objectives
- Working with the Office of Educational Technology to apply best practices in hybrid and online instructional design
- Upon contract continuation, teaching in-person MPH courses during the Fall 2026 and 2027 semesters as needed to support faculty sabbatical coverage (teaching load dependent on program needs and not to exceed three courses per semester)
- Participating in training related to hybrid course development and instructional technologies
The successful candidate must be able to work on campus regularly and participate fully in in-person teaching and collaboration.
Qualifications:
PhD in public health, DrPH, or related field. ABD considered. Candidates with an MPH and substantial professional or teaching experience in public health will also be considered.
Application Deadline:
Review of applications will begin on February 12, 2026, and will continue until the position is filled.
Compensation and Benefits:
Rank: Visiting Assistant Professor
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
