Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor in Writing
The Writing Program at Wellesley College invites applications for a benefits-eligible faculty position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The person hired for the position will teach four sections of first-year writing at the rank of visiting assistant teaching professor. This is a one-year, non-renewable position, paid at $60,236.
First-year writing courses are centered on discipline-based or interdisciplinary topics that excite students and provide the context for robust writing instruction. Each course is designed by the faculty member who teaches it, in consultation with the director of the Writing Program.
The instructor will conduct class in person according to the College teaching schedule. In addition, the instructor will meet one-on-one with each student three times during the semester to discuss their writing. At least one of these meetings must be in person. The instructor will also hold regular office hours in person and promptly respond to reasonable student inquiries throughout the semester.
Basic Qualifications:
Candidates from all scholarly disciplines are encouraged to apply. A PhD is strongly preferred, and those holding it will be most competitive. Candidates holding another terminal degree or who are ABD may be considered. Preference will be given to those who have two or more years of experience teaching first-year college writing.
