Visiting Faculty Appointment
Deep Springs College seeks applications for visiting faculty appointments in the 2026-2027 academic year.
About Deep Springs
Founded in 1917, Deep Springs College is a private, nonsectarian, fully accredited 2-year college program for academically gifted young people, located on a small cattle-and-alfalfa ranch in a beautiful, remote area of the White Mountains on the California-Nevada border. The program enrolls 26-30 students who divide their time between rigorous academics, labor, and self-governance (“the three pillars”) with the aim of cultivating a life of leadership and service. All students receive a full scholarship during their two years of study. Afterwards, most students transfer to top-tier institutions in order to complete their undergraduate degree.
The faculty of the college is composed of three long-term professors, and two to three visiting professors per term. The student faculty ratio is 4:1, and most classes have fewer than 10 students. Professors at Deep Springs have a unique impact on the intellectual culture of the school; a specific interest in how pedagogy may inform a life of service would be invaluable in this role. Deep Springs is a small and isolated community. As such, professors are expected to engage with the community beyond the classroom by fostering rapport with students and colleagues; opportunities include sharing in meals, projects, recreation, research, and ongoing conversation. Professors are also welcome (but not required) to serve on one of the five standing committees that perform responsibilities such as admitting students.
