Visiting Instructor Music Theory
Job Summary
Reporting to the chair of the School of Music, the visiting instructor of Music Theory will be expected to teach freshmen and sophomore levels of the core curriculum of music theory (Music Theory I and III in the Fall, Music Theory II and IV in the Spring) and aural skills courses as needed. This is an academic year appointment for the months of August 2026-May 2027. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications
- Earned Master's Degree in Music Theory, or a closely related field (with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Music Theory), by August 1, 2026.
- Demonstrated success in teaching music theory and aural skills at the collegiate level.
- A minimum of one academic year as instructor of record for music theory and/or aural skills courses.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in music theory or related field
- Keyboard skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively
Proposed Salary
Commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.
