Visiting Lecturer in Hebrew Bible

The Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies of New York University invites applications for a visiting lecturer in Hebrew Bible.

The appointment will begin on September 1, 2026, pending administrative and budgetary approval. This is a one-year position, renewable for a maximum of 3 total years.

This position will support teaching within the department’s curriculum in Hebrew Bible and the ancient world, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The teaching commitment is 6 courses per year. Teaching will include: (1) Courses that contribute to NYU’s Core Curriculum program, including "Cultures and Context: Ancient Israel"; (2) Elementary instruction in Semitic languages (e.g., Akkadian, Aramaic, or Ugaritic at graduate level); (3) Additional courses related to the Hebrew Bible and the ancient world (at either undergraduate or graduate level).

We are seeking candidates with a record of teaching excellence in inclusive classrooms who are able to contribute to the intellectual life of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Candidates should possess a doctorate in a field related to Hebrew Bible by August 31, 2026.

(1) Cover letter. This should specifically address the applicant’s qualifications for the position.

(2) Curriculum vitae.

(3) One full syllabus of a previously taught course in Hebrew Bible.

(4) A proposed course related to Hebrew Bible (either undergraduate or graduate). This does not need to be a full syllabus, but should include a general course description with selected proposed readings.

(5) The names and contact information of three references.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $60,000.
