Visiting Professorship for Central Europe
Job Summary: The Leiden Austria Centre and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research invite applicants for the Annual Leiden Visiting Professorship for Central Europe. The visiting professor will be active at the Leiden University Institute for History and cooperate with the Special Chair for Central European Studies. Candidates from fields such as history, art history, literature, music, or social sciences using cultural or historical approaches are eligible. The position is for the second semester (early February to early June) in 2026-27 or 2027-28.
Responsibilities: Teach two courses in English: a BA 2-3 lecture course and an advanced BA or MA research seminar on broad themes related to research. Participate in the academic life of the Humanities Faculty and Leiden University to strengthen Austrian-Dutch academic cooperation in Central European History and Culture.
Qualifications and Requirements: PhD from an Austrian University in history, art history, literature, music, or related fields; tenured university position at an accredited Public Austrian University; Habilitation from 2010 or later; excellent command of English; several years of university experience; activity in humanities research areas or closely related social sciences.
