We are seeking a distinguished personality with a in-depth expertise in sociological theories and a strong record of independent empirical research in at least one specialized field of sociology (e.g. political sociology, media sociology, organizational sociology, or migration sociology). Candidates must demonstrate an excellent track record of high-impact international publications and substantial experience in securing and managing third party-funded research projects. In addition, applicants should have experience in academic self-administration, ideally in managerial roles. Desirable qualifications include a background in inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration; public communication of science; familiarity with non-European social research, and thematic alignment with established research areas within the Faculty of Arts and its affiliated centers and institutes.

The post holder will teach introductory and theoretical lectures as well as seminars on specialized branches of sociology on the degree programs taught by the Institute of Sociology and the Institute of Political Science, especially the BA “Politics and Society” and the MA “Sociology”. A demonstrated commitment to teaching and outstanding didactic skills are essential, as is a willingness to teach courses in German and English. The position also involves a proactive role in shaping the strategic development of the newly established Institute of Sociology. The successful candidate is expected to show a strong commitment to academic self-administration and to be open to taking part in collaborative research initiatives within the institute, the Faculty of Arts, and the wider university.

Applicants will need an outstanding doctorate and a Habilitation or achievements deemed equivalent to a Habilitation.

The conditions of employment are in accordance with § 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW, HSG NRW).
