Writing Center - Tutor III
Position Summary
Tutor students through a variety of modalities and methods in higher-level courses and content, incorporating executive functioning skills; refer students to other relevant resources. Assist with creation and implementation of center-specific projects and training as appropriate; work with various campus partners to create learning opportunities for students; assist in other daily activities in the relevant center.
Required Qualifications
- Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
- Conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.
- Requires a Masters degree or Bachelors with appropriate field experience (as determined by the position), 3 years of teaching/tutoring experience.
The position will start in the Fall.
Position details include but are not limited to:
- Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, semester-long tutoring, embedded, group tutoring and/or lab demonstrations (online and/or in-person) in higher-level courses and complex content-areas, using techniques such as course-specific learning strategies and processing techniques deemed appropriate by the relevant supervisor; build rapport and supportive relationships with students.
- Assist with the creation and implementation of center-specific projects, including developing and maintaining physical and electronic center resources, and developing online guides and learning materials, delivering content-specific workshops, and meeting with students through the Academic Integrity Remediation process.
- Work with faculty, staff, and other campus entities to create learning opportunities for students, including developing and delivering content-specific workshops. Refer students to appropriate resources within the larger Academic Resource Center and across campus based on expressed student needs.
- Assist center director and ARC staff with campus outreach events. Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to FERPA.
- Assist in the hiring and training of new tutors as necessary and serve as a mentor to other center staff.
- Participate in mandatory center and campus training.
