Dr. E. Sanmuga Priya serves as a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University College of Engineering, Bharathidasan Institute of Technology Campus, Anna University, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. A distinguished pharmacy academician, she obtained her Ph.D. in Pharmacy from Dr. ALM PG Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Madras in 2006. Prior to that, she completed her M.Pharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Banaras Hindu University in 2001 with first class honors and her B.Pharm from Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in 1999, where she secured the gold medal and distinction. Her professional journey encompasses progressive roles at Anna University BIT Campus, advancing from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor and now Professor. Earlier, she worked as Assistant Professor at C.L. Baid Metha College of Pharmacy and as Scientist A at Amrutanjan Limited, Chennai, accumulating substantial experience in academia and industry.
Her research specializes in isolating and identifying bioactive fractions and lead molecules from medicinal plants targeting antiarthritic, antidiabetic, and antimicrobial properties, alongside investigating DAMPs in inflammatory disorders. Dr. Priya has authored several impactful book chapters, such as "The Role of Interleukin-17 (IL-17) - A Critical Mediator of Inflammatory Arthritis" in Advances in Health and Disease, Vol. 78 (2024, Nova Science Publishers); "Neohesperidin: Biosynthesis, ADME, Biological and Pharmacological Activities" and "Galangin: Advances on Resources, Biosynthesis Pathway, Bioavailability, Bioactivity, and Pharmacology" both in Handbook of Dietary Flavonoids (2023, Springer); and "Biochemistry of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus" in Phytotherapy in the Management of Diabetes and Hypertension (2020, Bentham Science). Key journal articles include the HPTLC method for simultaneous analysis of Emodin and Chrysophanol in Cassia tora Linn (Journal of Liquid Chromatography and Related Technologies, 2013), which earned a Certificate of Merit from Dr. P.D. Throughout her career, Dr. Priya has garnered prestigious awards, including the Best Oral Presentation at IPSCON 2023 for her work on S100A8 and S100A9 in rheumatoid arthritis, the IDMA G.P. Nair award for ranking first in her B.Pharm, multiple gold medals, and fellowships such as UGC through GATE and research fellowships. She holds significant academic roles as PhD viva examiner, doctoral committee member for various universities, question paper setter, and expert evaluator for SERB and AICTE. Additionally, she has secured grants for international conferences and leads funded research projects at Anna University.
