About Mugur
Mugur Dan Zlotea is an Associate Professor at the Department of Oriental Languages within the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bucharest. He teaches courses including Chinese Lexicology and Pragmatics, Translation Techniques, Chinese Culture, and Contemporary Chinese Society. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the Beijing Language and Culture University and his Ph.D. from the University of Bucharest. Zlotea received a post-doctoral research grant from the New Europe College in Romania and a Fulbright research grant at the University of Texas at Austin. He served as a visiting professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras from 2011 to 2013.
His research interests encompass contemporary Chinese society, elite political discourse of the Chinese Communist Party, the role of tradition in modern Chinese society, and translation studies. Zlotea has published articles and books on these topics and has translated Chinese literature and history works from Chinese and English. He is a member of the European Association of Chinese Studies, where he served as board member from 2016 to 2020 and secretary-general from 2018 to 2020, and a member of the European Association of Chinese Philosophy. He also holds a board position at the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest.
