Valerie R. Limbrunner-Bartlett is an Instructor in Physical Education at Portland Community College, where she was granted continuous appointment effective September 1, 2017, in the Math, Sciences and CTE Division at the Southeast Campus. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion and Education from Portland State University, three Bachelor of Science degrees from Portland State University—BS in Health, BS in Health Studies: Physical Activity, and BS in Health Studies: Community—as well as an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Portland Community College. Prior to her full-time role, she served as an adjunct Instructor in Health Studies beginning in 2009 and part-time faculty in the Dance department starting in 2013. A former professional ballet dancer, she has instructed in Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Pre-Professional Summer Intensive annually, taught master ballet workshops across Oregon, and participated as an instructor in White Bird’s Le Grand Continental Portland Community Uniting - Cultural Dance.
Limbrunner-Bartlett's certifications include Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), ACSM Autism Exercise Specialist, Xtend Barre Certification, and Peak Pilates Mat Certification. She served as project manager for an Open Educational Resources (OER) grant, leading the redevelopment and piloting of the HE 250: Personal Health course in collaboration with the Portland Community College Health Studies Subject Area Committee. As co-chair of the Physical Education Subject Area Committee (SAC) alongside Rebekah Spencer-Sims, she contributed to program expansions such as integrating the Dance program, developing new courses including Barre Fitness II, TRX Suspension Training, Training for Strength & Power, and partnerships with Exercise Science, Health Studies, and Community Education. She is an active member of the Fitness Technology Advisory Committee and participated in the Save The Pool Committee. In 2022-23, she received the Betty & Richard Duvall Scholarship to attend a yoga and meditation workshop to enhance her Meditation 1 course. Limbrunner-Bartlett teaches courses such as PE 120F Ballet III and PE 184O Yoga III, emphasizing holistic health approaches that integrate physical activity, wellness, and balance.
