Acad SEEK Student Support Specialist
POSITION DETAILS
Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-five colleges within the dynamic City University of New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high-quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community. The College is committed to a student-centered education and advancing knowledge through scholarly research.
The Academic SEEK Student Support Specialist reports directly to the SEEK Academic Program Director and works a 35-hour work schedule as agreed upon by the union; general duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provides academic, career, and personal advising to individuals and groups, including curriculum guidance, registration support, and maintaining student records.
- Facilitates group counseling courses for freshmen and sophomores and conducts workshops on college success topics.
- Identifies student needs through assessments and refers to appropriate support services.
- Supports student goal setting, academic progress tracking, and evaluates transcripts each semester.
- Advises on college policies, procedures, and major offerings, and supports recruitment and orientation efforts.
- Builds and maintains partnerships with high schools and community-based organizations to strengthen the SEEK admissions pipeline.
- Collaborates with Admissions and other departments to enhance outreach and engagement with guidance counselors and access professionals.
- Represents SEEK at high school fairs and community events, and meets with prospective students and parents.
- Participates in program planning, assessment, and report preparation, and utilizes tools like EAB Navigate for student outreach.
- Engages in team collaboration, supports administrative functions, serves on college committees, and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
A Master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology and two years' related experience. Other related master's degrees can be considered.

CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Provides educational programs, academic advice, and assistance to SEEK students. SEEK (Search for Education, Elevation, and Knowledge) is a higher education opportunity program established at the senior CUNY colleges to provide comprehensive academic support to assist capable students who otherwise might not be able to attend college.
- Provides advice to students covering academic, social, career, and related issues, making appropriate referrals as needed
- Determines areas of need and develops and teaches orientation programs, seminars, student workshops, and other activities
- Develops academic interventions related to student academic status and success
- Reports on activities and outcomes, assisting with report-writing and data collection
- Collaborates with academic and student support departments to ensure students are utilizing available services and programming
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
$76,937 - $86,741
