Are you passionate about guiding students toward academic success and meaningful careers? Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) invites you to apply for the position of Academic Advising & Career Specialist (AACS). This is a full-time, exempt position in the Academic Advising department, reporting to the Academic Advisor Manager.

Hiring Salary Range: $48,111 - $50,000

Under the direct supervision of the Academic Advisor Manager, the Academic Advising & Career Specialist (AACS) provides comprehensive academic and career guidance to new, returning, and existing students. The AACS serves as a bridge between education and employment, ensuring students understand academic requirements while simultaneously developing the career readiness skills necessary to enter the workforce immediately upon graduation.

As an essential member of the Student Support team, you will:

  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching for students on resume and cover letter development, interview techniques, and professional workplace communication.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for degree-seeking students whose goal is immediate employment after graduation.
  • Actively engage with the community to facilitate partnerships that create direct employment pipelines for students. This will primarily be done via programming at different campuses and ensuring information on Handshake is up to date.
  • Advise students on program requirements, degrees, and certificates offered by TOCC.
  • Serve as a monitor for the advising email, directing students to resources and assisting with the registration process.
  • Organize and facilitate advising, transfer, and career-focused events (such as job fairs or mock interview days).
  • Support the T-So:son (Our Core Values), including T-Wohocudadag (Our Beliefs) and I-We:mta (Working Together).

What You'll Bring

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent customer service, written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of academic programs, degrees, certificates, financial aid (especially FAFSA), internships, career choice, and transfer.
  • Knowledgeable about confidentiality provisions of FERPA.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while under pressure to meet deadlines.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree or higher.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Professional customer service and administrative skills.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and
  • Ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a career advisor or in student services.
  • Experience in enrollment or related areas in an institution of higher education.
  • Ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

Expected Work Hours: Typical hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require attendance at events in the evenings or on weekends.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Sedentary work involving sitting, typing, and occasional standing.
  • Primarily indoor office settings with protection from weather
