Job Summary
Provide academic advising and guidance to undergraduate students enrolled in the Gies College of Business.
Duties & Responsibilities
Student Advising Meetings
- Engage in purposeful discussion with students to learn about course performance and interests and assist with the selection of an appropriate major
- Provide advice regarding academic and career options
- Refer students to appropriate academic, career, and student affairs support resources
- Articulate study abroad courses for undergraduate students
- Provide New Student Registration advising and assistance to new first-year and transfer students
Study Abroad Advising Support
- Meet regularly with the Gies Global team to discuss updates to study abroad programs
- Create and update advising materials to support the Academic Advising team with study abroad advising
- Create and deliver training, when needed, to the advising team about study abroad academics and appropriate referrals to Gies Global
- Along with the advising team, provide high-level academic advising to undergraduate students interested in study abroad programs and refer students to Gies Global when appropriate
- Coordinate programs and events related to major and career exploration, academic success skills, student transition, and other relevant areas
Advising Administrative Duties
- Monitor academic progress toward graduation using appropriate systems and proactively support advisees
- Thoroughly document all student contacts using the advising portal system
Advising Leadership
- Collaborate with other advisors to maintain and develop advising strategies to support Gies students
- Research and assess programs with the Director to evaluate outcomes and recommend improvements or new initiatives
- Collaborate with Gies Career Services and other college and campus units to support students' academic and professional success
- Support Office of Undergraduate Affairs initiatives and programs as assigned
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and at least two years of experience in higher education or a related field. Experience can include graduate work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters Degree
- Experience working directly with undergraduate students in higher education, particularly with first generation, low socioeconomic status, underrepresented students, or international students in higher education.
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate student education and ability to respond to undergraduate students' needs and concerns.
- Exceptional communication skills, strong organizational and planning skills, and the ability to build relationships and collaborate with colleagues within and outside of the unit.
- Experience working with study abroad programs in higher education
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after posting close date 2/20/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $54,000 to $56,000 annually.
