Salary package: $118,632 - $134,507 per annum plus 17% superannuation

The Position

This postdoc will explore the geochemical behaviour of critical metals in the Earth’s crust as a function of variables such as composition, temperature, pressure and oxygen fugacity. They will focus on understanding how critical metals are mobilised and concentrated in the crust to form ore-bodies. The project will utilise the world leading experimental and analytical facilities at the Research School of Earth Sciences (ANU) and the Australian Synchrotron.

The Person

The appointee will have a demonstrated record of academic excellence in research, as measured by publications, funding awarded or other esteem measures. They will be a self-motivated early career geoscientist with experience in solid media high pressure experimental petrology and a range of microbeam techniques used for characterisation and quantitative analysis of experimental run products. They will be familiar with key concepts around the geology and formation of critical minerals deposits.

The School/Department

The Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth sciences. The School has a reputation for international leadership and innovation, focused on developing new methods, whether experimental, analytical, or computational. The Experimental Petrology group at RSES is a world-leader in high pressure experimental petrology and the application of cutting-edge microanalysis to experimental products. Our strategic research focus is on the geology and mineralogy of critical minerals deposits.

The College/Division

The ANU College of Science and Medicine (CoSM) encompasses the disciplines of: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Environment and Society, Mathematics, Physics, Science Communication and is also home to cross-disciplinary and specialist Institutes and Centres.
