Academic Program Manager
POSITION DETAILS
The Murphy Institute at SLU focuses on education for workers and union members and serves as a research and resource center for publications and public programming. The Institute’s Worker Education and Workforce Development programs collaborate with unions, government agencies, employers, and other CUNY units to expand educational opportunities across CUNY colleges for union members and other adult learners seeking the knowledge, skills, and credentials they need to achieve their career goals and improve their economic well-being. Through the Institute’s Public Engagement programs SLU offer public forums, publish materials, and offer programs that encourage public discourse and greater civic participation.
LEAP to Teacher (LTT), one of the Worker Education programs, is a collaborative program between SLU and several CUNY colleges. LTT provides a set of free, specialized support services to paraprofessionals, teachers and other school and daycare workers including United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and District Council 37 (DC37) members pursuing higher education and advancing their career in teaching or any other field of study. LTT services are currently offered across seven different CUNY campuses in five boroughs: Borough Manhattan Community College (BMCC), Brooklyn College, College of Staten Island (CSI), Lehman College, Medgar Evers College (MEC), Queens College and Bronx Community College (BCC).
The LTT program manager will supervise day-to-day activities at different sites. The Program Manager will report to the Director of Worker Education and Workforce Development (WEWD).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervising LEAP to Teacher program specialists and sit coordinators at collaborating campuses, oversee reports, time sheets, timely completion of projects and conducting regularly scheduled site visits
- Planning, conducting, and monitoring recruitment and outreach activities in five boroughs for LTT program. Prepare communications for recruitment and outreach in collaboration with the team. Attend all in-person and virtual open houses.
- Monitoring teacher certification workshops.
- Serve as a resource for Program Specialists regarding advisement, counseling etc. and assist with training and professional development.
- Implementing and enforcing all SLU policies and procedures as applicable to the LTT sites.
- Preparing protocol and procedures for the site coordinators and training site coordinator as needed.
- Liaising with the academic departments and administrative offices at partnering colleges on behalf of SLU and LTT program.
- Managing relations with the Department of Education (DOE), UFT/DC37, and community organizations who support and serve school workers and cultivating effective working relationships with leadership and staff of partnering unions and DOE.
- Advising the Director of WEWD and SLU’s senior administration on potential areas for growth and expansion of the LTT program.
- Collaborating with Worker Education team and Director of WEWD for developing and implementing variety of workshops, non-credit courses, academic support programs, and professional development opportunities for the LTT students and UFT/DC37 members.
- Attending team and check-in meetings and serving in LTT scholarship committee and other committees as needed.
- Monitoring student coding on CUNYFirst, LTT staff data entries in the program database and collecting, ensuring accuracy and reporting on LTT data and preparing regular status reports and assisting in preparing reports for the CUNY, founders, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and six years' relevant experience required.
PREFERRED & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's Degree in higher education or other related fields
- At least six years’ experience in higher education or K-12.
- Significant knowledge of the needs of adult students’ population in general and paraprofessional and school workers, from the perspective if enrollment management, student support and professional development.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NYS teacher certification requirements
- Familiarity with CUNY administrative policies, procedures, processes, and systems.
- Experience working with labor unions and DOE
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, particularly an ability in a complex, multi-institution environment.
- Excellent computer skills: Demonstrated proficiency in various programs, including Microsoft 365 (particularly Excel, PPT, Teams, SharePoint), zoom, Dropbox, Google suits, etc.
- Ability and willingness to work in the late afternoon/evening and some weekends and commuting to all boroughs for site visits.

Manages curriculum development and operations of a College's specialized academic program under the direction of a senior administrator.
- Implements and monitors a comprehensive academic program development plan; makes recommendations to improve department policies and procedures
- Assists Director with outcome assessment and strategic planning to further develop program offerings
- Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
- Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
- May manage professional and/or clerical staff
- May act on behalf of Director in his/her absence
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $90,838 - $113,982
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
