Essential functions (job duties):

Position Description

Warrior 360 (W360) is a comprehensive student support program and learning community that serves up to 200 incoming first-year students each academic year from matriculation through graduation. Through individualized support, programming, and campus partnerships, the program helps students build the academic and personal skills necessary to thrive at Wayne State University and beyond.

In partnership with a team of Success Coaches, Coordinators, and campus departments, the Academic Services Officer I/II (ASO I/II) coordinates Warrior 360’s pre-first-year experiences and supports the transition of incoming first time-in-any-college (FTIAC) students. This role leads the development of recruitment communications and college preparation initiatives for incoming students while managing program communications and social media platforms.

Working closely with the Associate Director of Student Success Initiatives, the ASO I/II plays a key role in welcoming new students into the Warrior 360 community and supporting early engagement with campus resources. As part of a broader student success strategy, this position contributes to initiatives that promote persistence, leadership development, and holistic student success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate a seven-day summer residential experience for incoming first-year Warrior 360 students in partnership with W360 coaches and program leadership.
  • Partner with campus offices(including Undergraduate Admissions, New Student Orientation, and Housing & Residential Life) to deliver a coordinated and transformative pre-first-year experience.
  • Collaborate with campus partners (including the Office of Multicultural Student Engagement, the Office of Student Financial Aid, Student Disability Services, Learning Communities, and Career Services) to develop programming that introduces students to key campus resources during the summer residential experience.
  • Develop and implement recruitment communications and college preparation initiatives for incoming W360 students.
  • Work with the Director and the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to manage recruitment and enrollment platforms and implement communication strategies that welcome and engage students throughout the enrollment process.
  • Manage and maintain program communications and social media platforms to support recruitment, engagement, and program visibility.
  • Collect, synthesize, and present data related to program participation, engagement metrics, and various outcomes; prepare reports to inform program assessment and strategic planning. Conduct ongoing program needs assessments and contribute to program improvement efforts.
  • Maintain the Warrior 360 website and program materials to ensure accurate and up-to-date information about program resources, policies, and opportunities.
  • Maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, university committees, and advisors to support coordinated service delivery.
  • Assist the Associate Director and departmental staff with program reports, planning, and assessment activities.
  • Participate in university and departmental programming, committees, and initiatives.
  • Engage in professional development through participation in national and regional conferences and professional organizations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Academic Services Officer I: Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or social/behavioral science.
  • Academic Services Officer II: Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, student affairs, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of graduate or professional experience in student advising, supervision, or program leadership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively through presentations, phone, email, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and other standard office productivity tools.
  • Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours and participate in limited travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in student affairs or educational support services, particularly in first-year experience programming or learning communities.
  • Knowledge of first-year transition programs, peer mentoring, and student success initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with large groups of prospective and incoming students.
  • Strong skills in long-term planning, project coordination, and cross-campus collaboration.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both in person and in virtual settings.
  • Experience supervising student employees or peer leaders.
  • Experience in student support, academic advising, student success initiatives, or program development.
