SUMMARY
SUNY Brockport invites applications for the Academic Success Coordinator position within the New Student and Transition Programs (NSTP) team. This role is housed in the state-of-the-art Academic Success Center, which opened in 2017 in the heart of the SUNY Brockport campus. As part of a team of dedicated, student-centered professionals, the Academic Success Coordinator will develop and implement comprehensive programs and interventions that support the transition and ongoing academic and personal success of our Emerging Scholars and first-generation students. Emerging Scholars is an admittance category that allows students to move in early and build essential transition and academic success skills. The coordinator will also assist in the organization and implementation of the First-Year Seminar program.
JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions:
First-Generation Programs
- Coordinates the First-Generation programs and outreach efforts.
- Tracks cohorts and manages recognition initiatives.
- Creates, updates, and delivers timely communications to students and their families to connect them with the institution and available resources.
- Organizes the annual First-Gen Celebration.
- Supervises the First-Gen Task force, a faculty- and staff-based committee.
Fannie Barrier Williams Scholars Program
- Assists in the completion of the Fannie Barrier Williams Scholars Program.
- Assists with graduation preparation and program completion.
Emerging Scholars Program
- Coordinates the Emerging Scholars Program.
- Creates and maintains communication plan.
- Coordinates the four-day Early Arrival Bridge Program, a welcome and transition experience for all Emerging Scholars that hosts academic guests, connects students with campus resources, and helps them navigate their first weeks on campus.
- Teaches and coordinating the Emerging Scholar sections within the First Year Seminar program.
Academic Success Center Support
- Supports supplemental advisement needs within the Academic Success Center.
- Supports students in the Academic Recovery Program.
- Assists students and the Brockport community through staff on duty hours.
- Offers Early Warning (EagleSUCCESS) concern support.
- Provides programming support, coverage and backup to the ASC Staff.
- Assists in the student success initiatives offered through the ASC and campus partners.
Non-Essential Functions
- Serves on committees as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience working with students at the post-secondary level in an advisement, counseling, or student success role
- Experience planning and implementing student focused programs (i.e., retention and/or orientation)
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students and alumni
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university
- Experience planning student bridge programs, including communication plans
- Experience leading educational and developmental training sessions
- Exhibits excellent presentation skills
- Experience with appropriate computer programs and technology including: Brightspace, Degree Works, Banner, Slate and familiarity with social media
- Experience with MS Office and student management/course management systems
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm, occasional nights and weekends
