Academic Technologist I
Job Summary
The Academic Technologist advances the strategic adoption and use of academic technologies by contributing to the discovery, exploration, evaluation, implementation, and continuous improvement of instructional technologies and learning environments. Partners with students, faculty, leadership, and staff to enhance teaching and learning through data-informed practices, training development, and operational support.
Core Responsibilities
- Leads the review of new digital tool proposals submitted through the Innovation Gateway by analyzing features, benchmarking against peer institutions, and preparing summary reports.
- Conducts in-depth research on emerging educational technologies.
- Coordinates and implements academic technology initiatives across instructional modalities.
- Leads or contributes to projects that support the strategic use of academic technologies.
- Develops, maintains, and refines training materials and resources.
- Manages assigned service requests and collaborates with team members.
- Completes operational tasks across digital tools.
- Leads effectiveness reviews, usage analyses, and satisfaction surveys.
- Stays current on trends in instructional technology, instructional design, accessibility standards, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Presents findings, research, or project updates to leadership.
- Facilitates training sessions for faculty.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience supporting faculty in the use of technology for teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Design, Instructional Technology, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Familiarity with best practices in using educational technologies in higher education, including Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Blackboard, D2L Brightspace).
- Experience in higher education learning environments.
