Join Utah Valley University as an Accessibility Advisor and play a meaningful role in fostering a welcoming, student-centered campus experience. In this position, you will serve as a trusted resource for students, staff, and faculty, providing expert guidance on disability accommodations and access for students and visitors with disabilities. Through regular one-on-one interactions-typically supporting 6-7 students each day-you will engage in an interactive process that empowers students, ensures individualized support, and upholds compliance with ADA, ADAAA, and Section 504 requirements. This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on student success while collaborating in a supportive, mission-driven environment dedicated to access, equity, and belonging.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Student Education and Support - Empower students to actively participate in the interactive process of determining appropriate accommodations. This process includes the Advisor meeting with students to assess reported barriers, review documentation and accommodation histories, and apply professional judgment to recommend appropriate accommodations. Advisors conduct both scheduled and drop-in appointments through various modalities, including in-person, virtual, and phone meetings. Educate students about the effective use of accommodations, their rights under the ADA, as well as how to request ongoing support. Ensure timely issuance of accommodation letters as requested, maintain clear and effective communication with students, staff, and faculty via email, phone, and Teams, and collaborates closely with supervisor as needed on student cases.
- Case Management and Documentation - Own and maintain a caseload of students, ensuring that all files remain accurate, updated, and in compliance with university policy and federal guidelines. Maintain detailed case notes documenting interactions, decisions, and rationale to promote transparency and accountability throughout the interactive process. Monitor the student application and accommodation request systems, actively tracking progress and addressing any issues that arise. Respond promptly and professionally to requests from students, faculty, and staff.
- Collaboration and Follow up - Work collaboratively with individual students, faculty, and staff to identify access barriers and implement effective accommodations. Maintain clear and timely communication with students, staff, and faculty through email, phone, and Teams, ensuring prompt responses to all correspondence. Actively participate in team meetings and engage in collaborative decision-making to promote best practices. Empower students to take an active role in the interactive process of determining appropriate accommodations, and coordinate with licensed professionals and external partners as needed to support student success.
- Outreach - Participate in a variety of department-sponsored outreach events and activities aimed at promoting accessibility for students and campus visitors. Attend partner fairs and engage in outreach efforts with students, staff, faculty, and external partners (including occasional night and weekend attendance)
- Additional Duties - Perform other duties as assigned to support the office's mission and ensure university compliance with federal and state statutes.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Master's degree in special education, vocational rehabilitation, counseling or psychology or closely related field
- Demonstrated proficiency in a second language such as American Sign Language (ASL) or Spanish
- Two years of related experience
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge- Knowledge of the American Disability Act (1990) and the Amendments Act, Vocational Rehabilitation Act, Section 504 (1973), GRAMA, FERPA, HIIPA, and other federal and state statutes and case law.
- Knowledge of a variety of disabilities, their impact, and accommodations including accessible technology that provide access to an academic environment.
- Knowledge of best practices in accessibility, accommodation services, and assisted technology.

- Excellent listening skills and the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Skilled in the using and learning new/emerging technology and software including accessible technology features.
- Skilled in the use of technology such as Microsoft Office (word processing, excel, power points), virtual meeting software, and the ability to learn new/emerging technology and software.
- Ability to interpret diagnostic information including medical, psychological, and learning assessments to determine reasonable accommodation services.
- Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff to problem-solve, work collaboratively, and resolve access issues.
- Ability to stay current in best practices in the field of accessibility services in higher education.
- Ability to work occasional evening or weekend hours.
- Ability to use professional judgement to determine and approve reasonable accommodations including accessible technology for students and visitors.
