About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality financial advice and reporting that directly shapes strategic and operational decisions across the University.
As an Accountant within our Finance Planning and Performance team, you’ll work alongside a dynamic group of professionals to support a wide range of stakeholders with their financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Prepare, review, and analyse financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness
- Provide expert accounting advice across the University, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and internal policies
- Work with multiple internal stakeholders to foster strong business relationships
- Prepare and review reconciliations and accounting journals
- Promote and contribute to a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and adoption of best practice in financial processes
Selection Criteria:
- Full membership of an internationally recognised accounting body (e.g. CA ANZ or CPA) and ongoing maintenance of professional development.
- Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience in the application of financial accounting principles, concepts and practices.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, influencing outcomes and business decisions.
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills to produce, assess, present and interpret financial information clearly and professionally to various stakeholders, including the ability to interpret data to inform decisions.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, adopting a consistent and positive approach in times of stress and change, whilst working in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting pressures and work effectively and consistently to competing deadlines.
- Demonstrated experience in a computerised financial system environment including advanced Excel and data interrogation skills.
Alongside the above position requirements, we are looking for a professional who can hit the ground running—someone who brings a strong foundation in technical accounting experience, and the confidence to provide financial advice that delivers lasting value to our internal customers.
Desirable:
- Relevant experience in an aligned commercial organisation or the higher education sector.
- Proven experience in financial or management accounting in a large complex organisation.
Role Requirements:
- As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
