Overview
The ACES Business Office is seeking candidates for the position of Accountant I/II/III. The individual in this position provides varied and high level professional and technical support to the ACES Business Office by serving as an accounting liaison to perform routine to complex professional accounting duties for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Reporting, analysis, and reconciliation of accounts.
- Preparing and/or reviewing financial transactions to include purchasing card transactions and reconciliations, vendor vouchers, travel vouchers, purchase requisitions and other transactions.
- Acting as a liaison to various administrative and business units across campus; reviewing, investigating and correcting errors in financial entries, documents and reports.
- Advising and assisting ACES units with financial activities to include budgets, contracts and grants, and day-to-day activities.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, technical expertise and ability to work both independently and in a team environment are also required. Attention to detail and ability to multi-task are also critical for this position.
Qualifications
Level I:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Degree plus a CPA
Level II:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Degree plus a CPA
- 2 years of experience in accounting services
Level III:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a Degree plus a CPA
- 4 years of experience in accounting services
Substitutions Allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of financial management, generally accepted accounting standards, and state and federal agency procedures
- Knowledge of college/university accounting practices
- Experience with Banner Finance and Human Resource systems
- Extensive skills in Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and Word
