Accounting Assistant II - 528421
Job Summary:
The Accounting Assistant II maintains accurate financial records. Provides accounting and bookkeeping support. Assists University staff in understanding industry standards, current laws, and university policy as it relates to the financial affairs of the University. Provides guidance and trains entry-level Accounting Assistants.
Additional Department Summary:
Performs a full range of moderately complex accounting functions requiring extensive knowledge of University travel, spending, purchasing and procurement, tax, contract and grant, student payment policies and procedures, IRS rules and regulations, and state law. Audits for compliance with University policies and procedures, state of Alabama law, and adherence to IRS rules and regulations regarding 1099 and taxable fringe benefit reporting. Utilizes sound judgment involving all expenditure of University funds.
Resolves questions and problems regarding the online travel and expense system using phone, email, and web-based screen sharing tools and refers only a limited number of highly complex issues to a manager or director. Completes reporting tasks and review and analysis. Updates approver information. Coordinates and processes invoices from external systems as well as batch processing for declining balance cards. Serves as a liaison to University departments, internal auditors and vendors, and external auditors and vendors.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience; OR associate's degree or higher.
Skills and Knowledge:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of basic accounting skills and the ability to organize work and time in an efficient manner. Proficient computer skills to include word processing, spreadsheet applications, personal computing networks, and internet software. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to work effectively under stress and high levels of activity. Ability to make decisions based on careful analysis and thoughtful judgments.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of 1099 rules and regulations. Accounts Payable experience. Degree in business or accounting related field.
Pay Grade/Pay Range:
Minimum: $18.32 - Midpoint: $21.97 (Hourly N4)
Normal Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
