What You'll Be Doing
As our Accounting Associate, you'll do more than just crunch numbers. You'll be a behind-the-scenes superhero, helping ensure everything from athletic programs to insurance coverage runs smoothly and efficiently. Working closely with our CFO, you'll tackle a wide range of accounting and operational tasks.
Your Day-to-Day Will Include:
General Ledger & Campus Accounting
- Dive deep into the financials of departments like Mystic Smiles and Athletics.
- Prepare journal entries and analyze budget vs. actual performance.
- Handle budget adjustments like a pro-reviewing, processing, and advising departments.
- Track extraordinary repair expenses and make sure they're properly recorded.
- Assist with the creation and magic of our annual and biennial budget book.
- Audit monthly credit card transactions and keep policy compliance top of mind.
- Help manage finances for the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
- Coordinate the state fleet and campus insurance coverage.
- Assist in compiling reports for IPEDS, HLC, and other regulatory bodies.
Office Support
- Be the go-to right-hand for the CFO and Executive VP-think communications, scheduling, and statements.
- Keep our front desk running like a well-oiled machine-greet guests with a smile and make them feel welcome.
- Support day-to-day operations and jump in where needed with a can-do attitude.
Special Projects & Miscellaneous
- Be a team player-step in with training, support, and ideas for improvement.
- Bring creativity to the table! We're always looking for smarter, better ways to do things.
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- Appropriate associate degree with courses in accounting, business, finance, or related field, and three years of directly related accounting, bookkeeping, or budgeting experience
- Knowledge of procedures and methods in large accounting systems.
- Good working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excellent computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office -Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, Internet, and electronic calendar) and excellent keyboard skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines, take initiative, and work independently with little supervision.
- Disciplined and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to perform well under pressure while handling multiple job duties.
- Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated positive customer service skills and the ability to relate to people of varying ages and backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with courses in accounting, business, finance, or a related business field
- Higher education experience.
- More than three years of directly related experience in accounting, business, finance, or related field.
