The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of the College of Engineering seeks candidates to apply for an Adjunct position.
Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Description of the Job:
This adjunct position will teach an undergraduate course entitled “Introduction to Electromagnetic Fields” in the spring semester of 2026. The course provides an introduction to the concept of electromagnetic fields. Topics include electrostatics, magnetostatics, scalar and vector potentials, and work and energy in fields, as well as the analysis and understanding of the phenomena associated with static electric and magnetic fields. Laboratory exercises will serve to reinforce students’ understanding of fields and train them in methods to measure, quantify, and analyze electromagnetic phenomena.
Job duties will include:
- Preparing and delivering lectures in alignment with current course-level learning objectives
- Preparing and assigning homework problems and exams related to the course
- Grading homework problems and exams, and assigning final course grades
- Collecting assessment data and sample student work, as needed
- Holding office hours; answering student questions; and providing timely responses to email, as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. from an accredited Engineering program
- Strong working knowledge of system thinking, system design thinking, and life cycle design and management with an emphasis on abstracting and modeling system complexity to develop a holistic and realistic system representation.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as an adjunct at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in the field of electromagnetics.
