GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Kirkwood Community College is seeking a part-time Adjunct Instructor of English to teach Composition I and II during the Fall 2025 semester on the Cedar Rapids Main Campus. This position involves in-person instruction of foundational writing courses that emphasize academic writing, critical thinking, and rhetorical analysis.
There is a strong possibility for the instructor to teach additional courses in subsequent semesters.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Constant (67-100%)
- Effectively organize and teach curriculum in accordance with established syllabi for Composition I and II.
- Deliver in-person instruction and engage students in reading, writing, and critical analysis.
- Prepare syllabi, evaluate student work, and provide timely and constructive feedback.
- Refer students to appropriate college support services as needed.

- Support a welcoming, inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds and experiences.
- Adapt teaching approaches to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
- Meet institutional expectations for class attendance, grading, and assessment.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION
Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A conferred Master's degree by date of appointment from an accredited institution with:
- At least 12 graduate hours in a combination of English, Communication, Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, Speech, Technical Writing, or English Education coursework.
- At least 6 of the 12 graduate hours must be in English or Communication.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS
- Experience teaching Composition I and II at the college level.
- Familiarity with community college teaching environments.
- Graduate coursework in writing instruction or pedagogy.
- Experience working with English Language Learners.
- Writing center or tutoring experience.
