General purpose: The Ceramics program seeks an innovative artist engaged in ceramics and committed to inclusive pedagogy, able to teach introductory-intermediate facets of ceramics design and production.

Summary of Essential Functions: Instructor will teach undergraduate courses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement a 16-week syllabus in clay-working techniques as applied to sculptural works
  • Teach technical processes
  • Work with students on conceptual development
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrations and reading discussions as relevant
  • Develop 3 -4 assignments that integrate learning outcomes assessed utilizing group critiques

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Required ability to teach intermediate to advanced technical processes in the field of ceramic arts.

Required Qualifications:

  • MFA Degree or equivalent
  • A strong record of professional excellence as demonstrated by a portfolio work and exhibition activity
  • Experience teaching at a collegiate level
  • Proficiency in a broad range of ceramic techniques and processes

Conditions of Employment:

  • Satisfactory background check results

Salary Range:

  • $4,515.00 - $7,656.00 (commensurate with experience)

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)
  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule) Interdisciplinary Sculpture Department Studio Safety Manual
