Adjunct Faculty for Education - Literacy Speciality
Job Details
CLASSIFICATION: Adjunct Faculty
DEPARTMENT: Education
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Education Department Chair
POSITION SUMMARY: Moravian University invites applications for part-time adjunct teaching positions in the Spring 2026 term to substitute for a professor on sabbatical. While these positions are intended to cover the Spring 2026 sabbatical, they may also lead to longer-term adjunct opportunities to meet ongoing departmental needs. Recognizing that one semester can feel too short for those seeking sustained adjunct work, the department aims to build a pool of reliable adjunct faculty, ensuring more even course allocation and continuity for both instructors and students.

- Assess student learning through a variety of methods and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, and fieldwork documentation.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with students, program faculty, and field placement partners.
- Ensure compliance with program prerequisites, GPA requirements, and state-mandated clearances.
- Demonstrate expertise in early literacy, language arts instruction, and/or second language acquisition.
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that prepares students to work with diverse learners.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Literacy, TESOL, or a closely related field required; doctorate preferred.
- Current teaching certification in Early Childhood, Elementary, Reading Specialist, or ESL preferred.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of successful PK–12 classroom teaching experience in literacy, language arts, or English language learning.
- Demonstrated knowledge of early literacy development, language acquisition, and culturally responsive teaching practices.
- Experience supervising or mentoring teacher candidates in field or clinical settings preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to support collaboration with students, faculty, and school partners.
- Commitment to inclusive excellence and the ability to work effectively with diverse learners.
- Proficiency with instructional technology and digital tools to enhance literacy and language instruction.
- Ability to meet fieldwork supervision requirements, including completion of all necessary clearances.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the college/university level preferred
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Candidates should be comfortable using digital tools for documentation and communication (e.g. Google Suite, email, video conferencing, AI).
