Adjunct Faculty, Humanistic Studies: Physics
Position:
Part-time Physics Faculty appointment in Humanistic Studies. The Humanistic Studies Department of Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for a part-time faculty position in a non-tenure institution beginning Spring, 2026.
Job Description:
The faculty position will teach a minimum of 3 credits per semester at an art school nationally known for its dedication to teaching excellence, a rigorous liberal arts curriculum and the importance of the fine arts. We are specifically seeking an instructor for H SCI 205 Visual Physics, a course that introduces students to essential concepts in physics through a visually-based, but rigorous investigation of a range of topics including energy, gravity, mechanics, optics, statics, waves, special relativity theory and how they apply to the environment.
Requirements:
MS in Physics, Engineering, or STEM related field
Experience teaching science at the college-level beyond graduate assistantships is preferred.

- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)
- Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
- Required training: Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
