Position Summary

The department is establishing a pool of applicants to fill potential part-time temporary teaching positions.

Major Responsibilities

A classroom based 3 credit hour course pays $4500 per class. The department typically hires for the courses/subject areas listed below but this list is not all inclusive. Other courses/subject areas may become available within the department.

  • LIT 371 Teaching Elementary School Reading & Language Arts I
  • LIT 372 Teaching Elementary School Reading & Language Arts II
  • LIT 511 - Teaching Literacy in the Primary Grades
  • LIT 516 - Teaching Literacy in the Intermediate Grades
  • LIT 525 - Discrete Literacy Instruction and Assessment
  • LIT 527 - Comprehension Instruction and Assessment
  • LIT 528 - Literacy Foundations
  • LIT 535 - Writing Instruction and Assessment
  • LIT 449 - Literacy in the Middle and Secondary School (cross-listed with LIT 549)
  • LIT 549 - Literacy in the Middle and Secondary School
  • LIT 560 - Children's and Young Adult Literature in the Curriculum
  • LIT 590 - Teaching and Learning Literacy in the Digital Age
  • LIT 630 - Literacy and Society
  • LIT 669 - The Literacy Specialist and The Literacy Program
  • LIT 690 - Assessment for the Specialized Literacy Professional
  • LIT 693 - Applied Assessment and Instruction: Literacy Capstone and Practicum

Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to department chair

Required Qualifications

Master's degree in Literacy/Reading Education or related field.

Competency with technological tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience teaching online courses at the college level
  • New York State certification in Literacy/Reading.
  • Doctorate in Literacy/Reading Education or related field.
  • At least three years of B-12 teaching of reading
