Description
The University of Houston Tillman J Fertitta Family College of Medicine (UHCOM) at the University of Houston announces a non-tenure track Adjunct Faculty - Physicians, Patients, and Populations Small Group Facilitator. This faculty will serve as a small group facilitator in the Physician, Patients, and Populations (PPP) Course, which spans 60 pre-clerkship weeks with 4 hours of weekly instruction. This course is critical to our mission of preparing physicians to deliver primary care in underserved communities with an emphasis on care that is evidence-based, high-value, and team-based. Topics within this course include physician-patient communication, physical diagnosis, medical interviewing, clinical reasoning and decision-making, professionalism, medical ethics, population health, health informatics, quality improvement and safety, health systems and policy, interprofessional team-based care, behavioral health, and evidence-based medicine. The faculty position will contribute to activities related to clinical skills, which includes interviewing, physical exam, documentation, and simulation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Attend virtual preparation sessions led by sessions instructors.
- If unable to attend preparation sessions, watch recordings.
- Prepare for small group facilitation with 7-8 students.
- Attend sessions and execute lesson plans developed by instructors.
- Allow students opportunities to demonstrate what they are learning and ensure all group members have a change to contribute to the discussion and group learning.
- Facilitate safe, effective discussions.
- Encourage the group to critically evaluate ideas and to articulate their reasoning.
- Strive for stimulating, enjoyable, and educationally useful experiences.
- Begin and end sessions on time.
- Create availability for student meetings.
- Provide individual feedback.
- Attend simulation sessions and/or view video encounters.
- Evaluate students simulation performances.
- Evaluate students documentation.
- Grade simulation documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- MD or DO Degree (or equivalent)
- Evidence of effective teaching of learners in clinical and classroom settings.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching students in small-group settings.
- Experience developing medical school clinical courses
- Experience supervising students
- Experience with LCME and/or other accreditation processes
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Track records of teaching excellence.
- Ability to work effectively with and within teams.
- Current medical licensure is preferred but not required.

Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Provost.
