Adjunct Faculty - Process Development

Description

The School of Professional Studies is seeking an adjunct instructor to develop and teach a new course in Biomanufacturing Process Development as part of a planned three-course undergraduate-level certificate in Biomanufacturing, designed for professionals with prior experience or academic background in the life sciences or related technical fields.

The course will be delivered in an online and/or hybrid semester-based format tailored to part-time, adult learners seeking to deepen their expertise and advance their careers in the biomanufacturing industry. Emphasizing both upstream and downstream process development, this course will go beyond foundational concepts to explore advanced strategies, technologies, and regulatory considerations that drive process optimization and scalability in modern biomanufacturing environments.

The instructor will bring deep subject matter expertise and current industry insight, supported by MCPHS leadership and industry collaborators to ensure the course aligns with evolving workforce needs and best practices. Working closely with a project manager and instructional designer, the instructor will play a pivotal role in launching this new certificate program. Depending on interest and availability, the instructor may also be invited to develop and teach the second and third courses in the sequence, further contributing to the growth and success of this strategic initiative.

  • Work with assigned course designer to develop content (assignments, presentations, readings, discussion boards, quizzes, exams) as needed.
  • Develop and provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Deliver course instruction, using the University learning management system and digital tools.
  • Use the University's learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, and other materials and to communicate with students.
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by video conference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Provide service, including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and collaboration towards a new certificate in life sciences industry fundamentals.
  • Maintain communication with the Program Director and Assistant Dean, identifying any students of concern and relaying student progress.
  • Maintain a presence in the course as directed by the Program Director, including answering student emails promptly, participating in interactive course elements where necessary.
  • Ensure the course meets the high-quality standards of other MCPHS online and on-campus courses.
  • Identify tactics to improve the course based on feedback.
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

Required:

  • Advanced degree in related field
  • Previous experience teaching and/or developing courses to undergraduate students in adult, part-time, or online programs
  • Previous experience in the life sciences
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A commitment to student success and the ability to engage and motivate students
  • Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with a wide array of parties at all levels (students, faculty, administration/staff, alumni, and external constituents)
  • Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
  • Experience with video-conferencing platforms, such as Zoom

Please attach a cover letter and a curriculum vitae/resume. Finalist candidate(s) for this position will be subject to reference checks and a pre-employment background check as a condition of employment.
