Summary of Position:
Teach one or more courses in one or more of the following degree programs: Plastics & Polymer Engineering Technology AAS and Plastics Engineering Technology BS. Courses assigned may be lectures or labs; face-to-face, blended, or online. A focus on student success, safety, and use of current technology are expected. Regular office hours are also expected. This is a pooled position. One or more applicants may be hired as needed to teach classes on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2025 at the earliest, and January 2026 at the latest.
Required Education:
A master’s or higher-level degree in field or closely related field and 3 years of relevant industrial experience. (all courses up through 400 level) A master’s or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor’s or associate’s degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught (all courses up through 400 level). A bachelor’s degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught; or an associate’s degree in field and any baccalaureate degree and 5 years of relevant industry experience (all courses up through 200 level).
Required Work Experience:
3-5 years of relevant industry experience dependent upon degree obtained. See Required Education.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Meet established course outcomes. Plan, deliver, and grade all course content and student work for assigned courses. Conduct classes, labs, or other assignments as directed and in a professional manner. Position may entail full-time or part-time teaching loads and related activities, based upon program need. Close consultation with program faculty, as well as training via university-provided programs (where appropriate). Maintain a minimum of one hour per week per course section for office hours to meet with students outside of class or lecture at a time convenient to the students. Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include but are not limited to: keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (ex. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty may be required to teach off-campus or in an online environment. Demonstrates an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives. Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
