Adjunct Instructor, College Writing I and/or College Writing II
Manhattanville University is seeking an adjunct professor to teach College Writing I and/or College Writing II (September 2 - December 19). These courses must be taught in-person. If the Fall semester is successful, there may be future employment opportunities. Candidates may apply to either or both courses.
Course Descriptions
ENC.1001 College Writing I
This course provides an overview of critical thinking strategies and writing skills essential for academic work and informed citizenship. Students develop critical literacy skills, including textual analysis, and formulate arguments through drafting and revision. Focus includes grammar, word usage, sentence structure, paragraph coherence, and rhetorical modes.
ENC.1002 College Writing II
This course builds on College Writing I, reviewing critical thinking, analysis, persuasion, argumentation, grammar, and style. It emphasizes analysis, synthesis, research, and documentation. Students produce a long-form bibliographic essay through research, revision, and feedback.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepare and teach well-organized classes according to student learning outcomes.
- Create and share syllabus with students and Dean's Office via Brightspace.
- Post assignment grades in Brightspace.
- Hold two hours of office hours (in-person or online).
- Use Manhattanville email for correspondence and respond timely.
- Submit Roster Reconciliations, Mid-Term and Final Grades by deadlines and file Retention Alerts as needed.
- Uphold faculty duties as described in the Faculty Handbook.
- Be familiar with the College Catalog and Faculty Handbook.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Subject matter expertise.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with Brightspace or similar LMS.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduate degree in English, Writing, or Composition.
- Experience: Previous teaching experience.
- Physical Requirements: None.
Salary
$3,375 - $3,675 per semester.
Hours Expectation
Teaching time: 2.5 hours/week; Office hours: 2 hours/week.

Housing is not provided.
